Our favourite piece of vintage design right now…….
……….is this gorgeous Pueblo Pottery bird!
The second we found this little fella we couldn’t put him down. Designed and hand painted by a native American Hopi artist in 1986 for Arizona Desert Pottery, this bird’s painted coat is highly representative of the Hopi peoples pallette, designs and stylisations. The white paste that this duck has been formed from is a very smooth, hard, matt finish and is quite possibly one of the most tactile items we’ve held.
Anyway we’re now off to hunt down not Hopi ducks but hopefully more pottery in similar designs by the Hopi and the closely related Zuni tribes from the Pueblo region.
Apologies if we’ve got any of the details or demographics wrong, this is a completely new area to us and we just wanted to share 🙂
